Convene special assembly session: AIADMK

March 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:27 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

The opposition AIADMK has called upon Chief Minister N. Rangasamy to convene a special session of the Puducherry Assembly in a few days to adopt a resolution to condemn the Karnataka Government’s decision to construct a dam across Cauvery.

Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, AIADMK Deputy Legislature leader A. Anbalagan said that Chief Minister N. Rangasamy must toe the line of neighbouring Tamil Nadu and bring in a resolution to show Puducherry government’s solidarity with the suffering farmers.

He said that the Tamil Nadu government had already adopted a resolution in the Assembly taking a strong exception to Karnataka’s decision to construct a dam.

However, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy had been keeping quiet on various issues affecting Tamils. The steps taken by the Karnataka government are totally against the Supreme Court verdict and would affect Karaikal ryots as much as it would affect farmers in Tamil Nadu.

The Chief Minister should convene a special session to criticise the Karnataka government. The government should adopt a resolution and forward it to the Centre seeking intervention.
