Congress, DMK hold meet to identify seats

Talks to continue today to finalise constituencies

The leaders of the Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Friday held discussions to identify the seats where they can field their candidates in the forthcoming Assembly polls.

Pradesh Congress Committee president A. Namassivayam and DMK president M. Karunanidhi signed an agreement allocating 21 seats to Congress and nine to DMK following which, the committees comprising senior leaders sat together at the Congress party office on Friday.

The committee headed by Mr.Namassivayam from Congress led the talks. Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader V.Narayanasamy, Leader of Opposition V.Vaithilingam, former ministers- E.Valsaraj, M.Kandasamy are also in the committee.

The DMK committee comprised former Chief Minister R.V.Janakiraman and organisers- S.P. Sivakumar, A.M.H.Nazeem and R.Siva.

The leaders will have talks on Saturday and finalise the constituencies.

Talking to reporters earlier, Mr. Namassivayam said, "Both sides shared the list of constituencies and we will discuss in detail tomorrow to thrash out a consensus.We will finalise the name of constituencies without delay."

DMK organiser R.Siva said, "We will have another discussion Saturday and after finalisation of constituencies, we will communicate it to our leaders in Chennai who will take a final call on this. At present, the talks are progressing in a smooth manner”.
