The Kalapet police have registered a case against former Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry University Anisa Basheer Khan for allegedly making derogatory and casteist remarks against an assistant professor of the institution.

The police said A. Praveen, assistant professor of the department of physical education, had complained that Ms. Khan had made derogatory and casteist remarks against him and had threatened to eliminate him. The High Court had asked the police to register a case if a cognisable offence had been committed. The police have registered a case against Ms. Khan under Sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and Section 3 (1) of the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.
