Book fair from December 19

The 18th edition of the National Book Fair organised by the Puducherry Cooperative Book Society will be held at Vel Sokkanathan Marriage Hall, Vallalar Salai, from December 19 to 28.

According to M.K. Sayeekumary, president of the Puducherry Cooperative Book Society, the fair would be inaugurated by Chief Minister N. Rangasamy . It would have over 1,00,000 books in Tamil, English, French, Hindi and other languages.

Those who purchase books for over Rs. 50,000 would be given the title of ‘Puthaga Maharaja’; those who buy books for over Rs. 10,000 would be given the title of ‘Puthaga Raja’; and children who buy books for more than Rs. 1,000 would receive a certificate with the title, ‘Puthaga Virumbi.’

Music programmes, elocution, poetry, quiz, drawing and painting competitions would be conducted.

Besides offering a 10 per cent discount on all books, there would be special considerations for institutions purchasing books in large numbers.
