The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged the Congress-DMK MLAs to resign from their statutory posts, including Parliamentary Secretary to the Chief Minister, in the wake of disqualification of AAP MLAs in Delhi by the President as per the recommendation of the Election Commission.

Addressing a press conference here, BJP local unit president V. Saminathan said if the MLAs did not resign from the posts, the party would approach the Election Commission.

The postings of seven legislators would come under the definition of Office of Profit as they enjoyed the privileges, he said.

When pointed out that the situation in Delhi was different as the Assembly there had passed legislation before making the postings, he said the party would raise the issue in Parliament.

The legislation itself should be scrapped as the additional responsibility of the legislators was causing a drain on the exchequer, he said.
