BJP leader Kirubanidhi dead

S.P. Kirubanidhi, former State president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, died at a private hospital here on Thursday. He was 90. A native of Koliyanur in Villupuram district, Mr. Kirubanidhi joined the BJP in 1989 and had served the party in various capacities.

He was the first Dalit Tamil Nadu State unit president of the BJP in Tamil Nadu. He was elevated to the post in 2000 and continued to be in the post for three years. His body was kept at his residence in Cuddalore. He was cremated at Kammiyampettai on Friday.

BJP State unit president Tamilisai Soundararajan, Industries Minister M.C. Sampath, Puducherry Welfare Minister M. Kandasamy and leaders from the Congress and VCK paid their last respects to Mr. Kirubanidhi.
