Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and alleged that the last five year of AINRC rule was a disaster for the Union Territory. Mr. Azad said that the Congress and DMK combine alone could provide a strong and stable government in Puducherry. The industries started during the Congress regime in the Union Territory had been closed by the AINRC regime, he added.
Mr. Azad likened the five years of Rangasamy’s rule to a “political tsunami” that led to the wash-out of all the development projects conceived and completed by the previous Congress-led government in Puducherry.
When the Congress was in power in Puducherry and also at the Centre there used to be a weekly meeting to know the requirements of Puducherry. But Mr. Rangasamy sits at home and runs the government from home without approaching the Prime Minister and Union Ministers, he alleged.
The poor performance of AINRC Government could be seen by discontinuation of several importance schemes the previous Congress regime had implemented to benefit the poor and also school children, he said.
Mr. Azad also charged Prime Minister Narendra Modi with having neglected the UT without extending any rehabilitation and relief package during natural calamities. When asked whether there was a possibility of the AINRC merging with the Congress in the post poll days, Mr. Azad said that Mr. Rangasamy had already destroyed the AINRC and we don’t want to face the same damage.
