AIADMK Legislature Party leader A. Anbalagan on Sunday blamed the previous United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre for opening a separate public account of the Union Territory from the Consolidated Fund of India. He also alleged that the decision of then Union government has led to the present financial crisis in the Union Territory (UT).
Injustice
Addressing reporters here, Mr. Anbalagan said the injustice caused by the UPA government to the Union Territory had back-fired on the Congress government here. He said it was surprising to see that at the inter-State Council meeting, Chief Minister Mr. Narayanasamy had spoken about the serious impact that the adoption of separate public account had made on the government.
Mr. Anbalagan pointed out that the public accounts of the Union Territory had been separated from Consolidated Fund of India in 2007 (Congress was ruling at UT and Centre).
He also charged that only because the then Congress government had accepted the scheme, the UT had been facing the fiscal crisis and increase in debts.
Separate public account
Mr. Anbalagan asked why Mr. Narayanasamy had failed to prevent opening of a separate public account when he was the Union Minister of State at the Centre. He accused Mr. Narayanasamy of inaction on issues such as granting special category status for Puducherry and its inclusion in the Central Finance Commission
“Resolutions were adopted by the Puducherry Legislative Assembly demanding Statehood and were forwarded to the Centre. Mr. Narayanasamy could have used his good offices to persuade then Union Government to grant the special status which he is demanding now,” said Mr. Anbalagan.
