Eight of the 10 members of the executive committee of the Alliance Francaise de Pondichery have tendered their resignation in two days.
Although two members — including its president and vice-president — remain, the executive committee in its present form stands dissolved, it is learnt. “An extraordinary general assembly should be organised to elect a new governing body,” said a communication from the Alliance Francaise, which is the oldest in Asia and among the earliest chapters in the world.
Those who tendered their resignations on July 18 and 19 include Anandavadivelou S., vice-president; Namassivayane, secretary; Predibane Siva, joint secretary; V. Narayanan, treasurer; Ramaya Kichenamourty and Vengada Soupraya Nayagar.
The two members who remain in a vacuous executive panel are president Lalit Verma and vice-president Marie-Antoine Desjardins.
