The Health Department is all set for the second phase of the intensified pulse polio immunisation programme to be held on February 22.
In the second phase, the department aims to cover a total of 93,000 children aged between 0 and 5 years in all four regions of the Union Territory — Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam.
A release said that around 439 booths have been set up across the Union Territory to administer the drops. Apart from this, 22 transit booths will be located at bus terminals and railway stations, Sri Manakula Vinayagar temple, Beach Road, Chunnambar Boat House.
Border booths have been established at Kurumbapet, Kalapet, Madagadipet, Gorimedu, Kannikovil and Thirukkanur. Arrangements have also been made to reach out to 390 children between 0 to 5 years in 109 high risk sites.
In order to ensure that all children were immunised, the Health Department will be conducting door-to-door visits with two teams from every Primary Health Centre visiting the houses in their respective areas on February 23 and 24.
The teams will be visiting both government and private schools to identify and immunise unreached eligible children. The last case of polio was reported in Puducherry in 1998.
