Legislators belonging to the AIADMK on Wednesday staged a walkout from the Puducherry Assembly in protest against the AINRC government for not fulfilling the promises made in the previous years.
Even as the Chief Minister N. Rangasamy began presenting the budget, the AIADMK MLAs, led by party leader P. Purushothaman, raised the issue.
The Speaker V. Sabapathy asked the MLAs to resume their seats and maintain decorum. But the AIADMK MLAs except L. Periyasamy continued to raise slogans against the Government. While all the four MLAs staged a walkout, Mr. Periyasamy remained in his seat leaving the AIADMK red faced.
AIADMK Deputy Legislature party leader A. Anbalagan made an unsuccessful bid to persuade Mr. Periyasamy to join the walkout. But he declined. Speaking to reporters, Mr. Anbalagan said the budget was an empty document lacking direction. The ruling AINRC government has let down the people who had voted it to power. He criticised the Government for being “weak” and said that the Union Territory was pushed backwards under the AINRC ruleMr. Anbalagan said the budget has been presented keeping in mind the Assembly elections due early next year.
