AIADMK cadres yet to put it behind them

For the third consecutive day, hundreds of AIADMK cadres and leaders continued their agitations, observing fast and conducting protests against the imprisonment of the party general secretary Jayalalithaa.

In Mudaliarpet, 500-odd cadres of youth wing of the party led by its secretary and MLA A.Baskar, urban secretary Ravindran observed a fast as a mark of protest against her imprisonment in Bangalore.

AIADMK Puducherry unit secretary P.Puroshothaman, Deputy Leader of Legislature Party A.Anbalagan and other MLAs also participated in the agitation to show their solidarity with the youth wing.

Mr. Purshothaman called the sentence on Jayalalithaa a gross injustice and alleged that it was culmination of a conspiracy hatched by DMK President M.Karunanidhi and Congress leaders.

Mr. Anbalagan said gross injustice has been meted out to AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa. He also welcomed senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP P Kannan’s extension of ‘moral support to jailed party leader Jayalalithaa.

Mr. Kannan had stated on Monday that he was extending moral support to the AIADMK general secretary and that she would scale greater heights because of sympathy and intensified support she was gaining in the context of the current developments. The AIADMK Party Puducherry unit secretary also added that agitations would continue until their leader Jayalalitha is released from the prison.

Hundreds of fishermen also observed fast by sitting in front of the Kottakuppam Panchayat union office. Similar fasts were observed in several places on East Coast Road.
