Of 52 candidates selected for PG medical seats in deemed universities in through Centralised Admission Committee (Centac) under government quota, only 16 have been admitted so far.
Even the interim order passed by the Madras High Court last Friday in relation to the public interest litigation (PIL) petition filed pertaining to the PG courses in medical colleges has not helped the candidates.
A candidate, on condition of anonymity, said that they went to the deemed universities with a demand draft of a sum of ₹10 lakh, as directed by the Madras High Court, and the allotment order.
“However, the institutions informed us that the seats allotted through Centac had already been filled. We have to only choose from the vacant seats available,” said the candidate.
Another candidate said, “We found that Centac has issued more than one allotment order for one seat. This has allowed candidates capable of paying ₹30 lakh to take the seats.”
Official denies charges
When contacted, a senior Centac official denied the allegations.
He said instructions were clear that the deemed universities have to admit students selected under government quota through Centac.
“We collected 10 demand drafts on Saturday and four on Sunday. The deemed university has to admit the candidates based on the allotment order provided to them,” said the official.
Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services, Government of Puducherry, on Sunday sent out a “very urgent, immediate action” notice to all deemed universities and a copy to the under secretary to the government (health), Chief Secretariat, Centac chairman and the private secretary to the Health Minister.
The notice directs the management of the deemed universities to admit the students who were provisionally allotted seats under common counselling by Centac and had remitted their fee to the committee authorities against the vacancy for which they were selected in the order of the merit under Puducherry State Merit and All India Merit towards State government quota and all India quota respectively.
“The deemed to be universities shall not admit candidates other than those allotted by Centac under common counselling in terms of Section 9A of Post Graduate Medical Education Regulation to both government or management quota. Admissions, if any, made will be in contravention of PG Medical Education regulation, instructions of the Government of India, order of the Supreme Court,” the notice stated.
