The release of the annual magazine, ‘Widerstand’, by Students’ Council of the Pondicherry Central University continued to trigger protests from the opposing camps of those against the reportedly objectionable and divisive content and proponents of free speech.
On Wednesday, students affiliated to Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) picketed the office of Dean of Student's welfare condemning the release of magazine which they claim contained objectionable contents that could spread hatred among students.
Tension prevailed as they burnt copies of the magazine on the campus. The ABVP cadres indulged in sloganeering against the administration for allowing the release of magazine. They demanded removal of Vice-Chancellor (in-charge) Anisha Basheer Khan and Dean of Students' Welfare P. Moorthy for their participation in the magazine release function.
A spokesperson of the organisation said the Students’ Council ought to represent the entire student community in the campus but the Council seemed to be divisive.
Meanwhile, students affiliated to the Students Federation of India and Ambedkar Students’ Union protested against the clampdown on freedom of speech and expression by the university administration.
