Schools reopened on Monday bringing on a gamut of display of emotions from excitement and camaraderie to abject horror among tiny tots.

After a summer vacation of 46 days, children were back to school on Monday for the academic year 2016-17. It was the first day in school for many children and parents had accompanied them to ensure the reluctant children enter the classrooms. On the other hand, in order to make children feel at home, government and aided schools across Puducherry organised Pudu Vakuppu Pudu Vizha (New Class, New Festival) function. As part of the programme, the school administration introduced the facilities provided by the government schools to the parents. They told the students and parents about the infrastructure and syllabus followed by them. Officials at the Department of Education said that this function was organised to inform the parents and students that the government schools also provide quality education on par with the private schools but free of cost. Free notebooks were distributed. In addition, CBSE text books for the primary section were also distributed in Puducherry government schools.
