AIADMK MLA A. Anbalagan says Kiran Bedi and the territorial government have put bureaucracy in a spot.

The Puducherry unit of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Monday challenged Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi to share with public information related to “complaints of abuse” that she had said was aware about in her recent open letter to people of Puducherry.

AIADMK Puducherry unit secretary A. Anbazhagan told a press conference here that Ms. Bedi, in her letter, had referred to the complaints of abuse. The AIADMK leader said the Lieutenant Governor should make them public. Otherwise, it would give an impression that she was trying to threaten the government with the complaints she had received. The Lieutenant Governor should tell the public where the ministry had failed to function. In the letter, she mentioned the financial powers that the constitution had bestowed on the Lieutenant Governor, he said and added that the reference implied a threat to an elected government.

The turf war between the Lieutenant Governor and the ministry had caught the bureaucracy in a tight spot not knowing whose orders had to be followed. This, he said, had caused a cascading impact on the administration of UT.

He brought to notice the plight of the Government General Hospital. The administrative paralysis had led to non-fulfilment of doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff. Lack of beds had prompted patients to sleep on the floor. There were complaints about shortage of medicines, he said.

“Both are fighting each other and patients are suffering,” he said. He reiterated his demand for intervention by the Union Home Ministry to set things right.

The AIADMK leader urged the government to hold the winter session for at least seven days to discuss all the issues pertaining to the administration and public.
