The health department has urged people to ignore baseless fears being spread on social media about the Measles Rubella (MR) vaccine ahead of the MR campaign from February 6 to 28.
The campaign is committed to ensuring that no child dies from measles or is born with congenital Rubella syndrome, the department said in a press note. The vaccines are certified as safety vaccines by the WHO and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and are produced by the Serum Institute of India in Pune. Besides, this type of vaccine is already part of the routine immunisation programme in the UT for the past three decades, the press note said.
The MR campaign targets children between the ages of nine months and 15 years after which the MR vaccine will be included in the routine immunisation programme.
In the Union territory, the MR vaccination drive will cover an estimated 3.10 lakh children. The session sites of the vaccination are in the health care delivery system, which includes Government Hospitals, CHC/PHCs and sub centres as well as State-run and private educational institutions and special camps.
“People can avail of this safe vaccine and protect children from measles and rubella to acquire her immunity,” the press note said.
