CPI (M) cadre protest against demonetisation

Cadre of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Wednesday staged a demonstration on Anna Salai condemning the police action on activists of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) at Medavakkam in Chennai on December 31.

The protesters were led by K. Balakrishnan, former MLA and Central Committee Member of the CPI (M), R. Rajangam, secretary of the Puducherry unit and T. Murugan, State council member of the party.

R. Rajangam, secretary of CPI (M), said the police had brutally assaulted the DYFI cadre and also made sexual remarks against women cadre who participated in the protest against demonetisation. CPI (M) cadre who went to a marriage hall on learning about the incident were also attacked brutally. He demanded legal action against the police personnel.

The party also registered its strong protest against Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi for imposing cashless transaction on the people. He alleged that Ms. Bedi was acting on behalf of the BJP and was implementing the Union Government’s directive of cashless transaction on the people.
