A total of 17,572 children in Puducherry and Karaikal appeared for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination on Wednesday. Nearly 9,946 boys and 8,626 girls from over 300 higher secondary schools appeared for the first paper in Tamil language on Wednesday.
Of the 17,572 children, 14,730 are from Puducherry, and 2,842 are from Karaikal. Out of the 14,730 appeared in Puducherry, 7,487 were boys and 7,243 girls.
In Puducherry, 814 examination supervisors and seven five-member flying squads were formed under the supervision of the Chief Education Officer to prevent malpractice. Apart from regular students, 1,772 private candidates also appeared for the exam. According to a senior official in the Education Department, the first language exam appeared to be easy for the children. The exam which began at 9.15 a.m. went on till noon. The examination was conducted in 37 centres in Puducherry. The SSLC examination will conclude on March 28.
