‘Experts ever alert to epilepsy challenges’

Clinical and diagnostic experts are ever seeking to crack the challenge posed by epilepsy, S. C. Parija, Jipmer Director, said on Saturday.

Addressing a CME on “Epilepsy Management hosted by the Department of Neurology” in connection with International Epilepsy Day, Dr. Parija said that Jipmer adheres to a multidisciplinary approach in treating epilepsy.

He pointed out the continuous health education campaigns under Jipmer health education initiative in addressing the medical, psychosocial aspects of epilepsy to public.

The observance is a joint initiative of International League against Epilepsy (ILAE) & International Bureau for Epilepsy to promote awareness of epilepsy and to highlight the problems faced by people with epilepsy.

To enhance and strengthen the services of neurology services in Jipmer, he said the institute will create a Centre of Neurosciences integrated with basic medical sciences and specialties. Dr. J. Balachander, Medical Superintendent, Jipmer, said the brain being the most exciting organ in the body, it requires lot of skills to handle its functions and dysfunctions.

He mentioned the nano-robotics like newer advances in epilepsy care. Experts including Dr. R.P. Swaminathan,. Dr. Sunil Narayanan, Dr. Pradeep Nair, Dr. Vengamma, Head of Neurology, SVIMS, Tirupati, Dr. Ramashekhar Menon, Assoc. Prof. SCTIMST, Dr. Jitender Saini, Addl. Prof. of Radiology, NIMHANS and Dr. Pavithra Mannam, Asst. Prof. Radiology, CMC, this CME.
