Over 2,000 participants such as doctors and staff of Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH), students of Dr N.G.P. institutions, teaching and non-teaching staff, besides members of the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Central and Hope Walkers Club took part in the Kovai Marathon 2012 held here on Sunday.
D. Aadhi Moolam Naidu, chairman of Augustine Group of Companies, U.S., B. Paras, Secretary, Rotary Club of Coimbatore Central and Kasi Goundan, Director of KMCH, flagged off the marathon in the presence of Nalla G Palaniswami, Chairman of KMCH, Thavamani D. Palaniswami, Vice Chairman – KMCH and Dr. Arun Palaniswami, Director – KMCH. Starting off from KMCH City Centre, the marathon, which had the theme of the event ‘Cancer – Hope Matters,’ covered a distance of 18.5 km before concluding at KMCH’s main centre.
According to a press release from the KMCH, it was organising the annual marathon since 1992 to create awareness on the importance of physical fitness among the public.
Winners
The winners were awarded cash prizes of Rs.10,000, Rs.7,500 and Rs.5,000 for first three places respectively in the following categories: doctors, staff and students.
