On International Yoga Day, yoga teachers and enthusiasts from the city came together to give Mumbaikars a crash course in yoga on board locals on Thursday.
A group of 35 to 40 yoga teachers boarded the train from Churchgate at 10 a.m. to teach yoga techniques to people heading to offices and colleges. They alighted at each station on the Western Line to either change coaches or change trains until they reached Virar. They repeated the exercise on their way back, concluding their day at 6 p.m.
The initiative was the brainchild of Raksha Vadhaiya, who taught yoga philosophy at the Mumbai University campus in Kalina for 14 years, and her student, Richika Shah.
Ms. Vadhaiya said, “I wanted to bring a bit of relaxation to people of the city. The atmosphere in a Mumbai local is always of hurry and worry. We wanted to break that cycle. We just taught commuters a few simple breathing exercises they can take back with them and implement in their daily lives.”
