Navi Mumbai: The Anti-Narcotics Cell has arrested a 32-year-old woman with 18 kg ganja.
After receiving a tip-off, police sub-inspector Rani Kale and team laid a trap at around 11.15 p.m. on Sunday at Turbhe. The accused, identified as Kumari Bijaykumar Bastrai (32), was nabbed when she with the ganja worth ₹2.6 lakh came beneath the flyover opposite the Mhape bus stop. She was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The accused told the police that she was coming to Mumbai in search of work when a villager in Odisha asked her to deliver a bag in Navi Mumbai. “She said she doesn’t know the man who gave the bag and she was promised a commission. She reached Mumbai on Sunday morning. She hardly speaks Hindi and is a first-timer in Mumbai,” Ms. Kale said.
She was produced before court on Monday and remanded in police custody for two days. “We will interrogate her to know from where she received the drugs and to whom she was planning to supply. We are also verifying if she had any cases, but as of now she seems to have no criminal record,” senior police inspector Sunil Bajare said.
