Mumbai: The Vashi police will soon create a WhatsApp group to share important information with citizens during the monsoon. Residents had demanded a mechanism to curb rumours, especially during downpours.

The police made the announcement during a meeting organised on Monday to give residents a platform to air their concerns. It was attended by departmental heads from the NMMC and representatives from the MSEB, BEST, NMMT, MTNL, Vashi Traffic Unit and Vashi autorickshaw union.

Senior Police Inspector Ajay Kumar Landage of the Vashi police said a key issue raised during the meeting was about rumours that spread during the monsoon. “Keeping this in mind, we have decided to set up a Whatsapp group so that people are informed. Vashi residents and representatives of various departments will be added to the group,” he said.

Residents have welcomed the initiative. “It is nice that the police arrange such meetings. It helps citizens communicate with authorities,” said Vaibhav Gaikwad.
