Mumbai: Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday held a meeting with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is in the city to meet business leaders.

The meeting between the leaders, who have expressed displeasure over the working of the Central government, is seen as an attempt to coming closer politically.

Mr. Thackeray said after the meeting that they didn’t discuss politics, but shared the same views on the Goods and Services Tax and demonetisation. “This was my first meeting with her. There was no political discussion, but we have same views on demonetisation and the GST. Both of us have been speaking on these issues. This was only the first meeting; let’s see how things shape up,” he said.

The two leaders also discussed joint ‘sister cities’ initiatives between the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.

The Sena chief was accompanied by his son Aaditya at the hotel where Ms. Banerjee has been staying. This is one of the rare occasions when the Thackerays have come out of Matoshri to meet a leader from another state.

Ms Banerjee, who has been in the city since Tuesday, has met top industrialists and bankers ahead of the fourth edition of the Bengal Global Business Summit to be held in Kolkata in January.
