MUMBAI: The joint venture (JV) of Tata Projects, ITD Cementation and CEC Taiwan, which has bagged the contract to construct the package 4 of Mumbai Metro 3 (from Siddhivinayak temple to Mahim) has committed to plant over four times the trees it is required to plant as per the contractual agreement.
The entity is required to transplant 84 trees that will be uprooted from the Metro 3 route. Besides, since 150 trees will have to be cut, there is a requirement to plant 450 trees (three times the affected trees) in a notified area. However, a top official said the partners have committed to plant up to 2,000 trees, due to their commitment to the protection of environment.
Vinayak Deshpande, Managing Director of TATA Projects, said, “Preservation of ecology and harmonious integration of sustainability goals in project execution are the guiding principles of Tata Projects. Sustainability is at the core of all our actions.”
As per the guidelines, the JV will also maintain the plants for three years from the date of plantation.

The package involves an investment of ₹2,830 crore and the partners have been mandated for the design and construction of the three underground stations and 6 kilometre of tunnels.
