A 53-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday after he ended up killing the worker of a store while attempting to murder its owners.
The Rabale police said the accused, Dhananjay Vaaman Bhoir, held a grudge against brothers Sohan, Mohan and Arjun Chaudhary, who ran Jeevanjyoti General Stores at Sector 2 in Airoli. Bhoir and the Chaudhary brothers stayed in Rosewood Housing Society, situated opposite the store, and often got into arguments over petty issues.
Holding a grudge
The police said that Bhoir was angered after the Chaudhary brothers allegedly insulted him on several occasions. Bhoir held a grudge against the brothers for not treating him the same way as the other residents of the building.
He claimed that he once wasn’t offered sweets when a baby was born in the Chaudhary household, and the brothers denied him a flag during Republic Day celebrations in the society. On Tuesday morning, Bhoir and the were involved in a quarrel over parking space.
A police official from Rabale police station said, “At around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, the Chaudhary brothers from their shop stared at the accused, who was standing in his balcony. This instigated Bhoir and he picked up a knife and a sickle, and headed for their shop to seek revenge.”
Breaking up scuffle
The police said that Bhoir entered the shop and started attacking the Chaudhary brothers with the weapons. Jalram Bhanram Chaudhary, a 26-year-old worker at the store, was grievously injured when he intervened and tried to break up the scuffle. The worker succumbed to his injuries. The accused and the injured are being treated at MGM Hospital.
Dr. Sudhakar Pathare, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I), said, “The accused was hot tempered picked up a quarrel with people in the building and held a grudge against the brothers. He bought the sickle four days ago back and hatched a plan to kill them.”
Bhoir was living off the money he made after selling his truck and ancestral property in Bhandup. He has been arrested under Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 323 ( voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code, and Sections 37(1)(3) and 135 of Bombay Police Act.
