‘Process of strengthening Coast Guard gaining momentum’

More orders for various categories of vessels having been expedited, says Director General of Coast Guard

Director General of Coast Guard Vice Admiral Anurag Thapliyal has said that process of strengthening the Indian Coast Guard(ICG) has gathered momentum with more orders for various categories of vessels having been expedited in recent times.

He was confident that with the present momentum, the ICG will reach a fleet of 150 ships and 100 aircrafts by 2020.

Speaking at the commissioning of the four Indian Coast Guard ships at Mormugao on Monday, Mr. Thapliyal said that at present the fleet of the ICG had 108 ships and 64 aircrafts, contrary to 64 ships and 45 aircrafts in 2008.  It has doubled its surveillance efforts in last five years, he noted.
