Mumbai: A female sub inspector with the Thane Rural police attempted suicide at her residence on Sunday evening. The victim, identified as Nisha Khule, is attached to Mira Road police station, and stays with her family in Mira Road.

According to the police, she was admitted to Workhardt Hospital in Mira Road after she consumed a poisonous liquid. She was taken to the hospital in an unconscious condition by her family members, and was treated overnight. Her condition is said to be stable.

“We have not found any suicide note in her house. Ms. Khule regained consciousness on Monday and we will soon be recording her statement to find out what might have led to the extreme step,” Additional Superintendent of Police Prashant Kadam, Thane Rural police, said.

Mr. Kadam said Ms. Khule had not complained of any problems pertaining to her work over the last few months, and inquiries so far have also not thrown up indications of any chronic health problems.

Ms. Khule joined the Maharashtra Police force three years ago, and Mira Road police station was her first posting after her probation ended two years ago. The police are making inquiries with her family members and colleagues to find out if she had confided in anyone about wanting to take the extreme step due to any reason. Her cell phone is being analysed and the people that she spoke to on Sunday are being contacted. The liquid has been sent to the Forensic Sciences Laboratory in Kalina for analysis.

“We have not registered a case. Further course of action will be decided after inquiries are complete,” Mr. Kadam said.
