The Mumbai Police on Saturday issued a notice to the Maharashtra Navnirman Chitrapat Kamgar Sena, the film wing of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), warning them against strict action if they created law and order problems in the city.
The MNS had on Friday issued a statement threatening to drive Pakistani artistes out of the city if they did not leave on their own within 24 hours. The threat was made by the party following the terrorist attack in Uri, Kashmir in which 18 Indian military personnel were martyred. The Mumbai Police, in response to the threat, had stated that all foreign nationals who are in Mumbai on valid documents will be provided adequate protection as and when required.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) Paramjit Singh Dahiya confirmed that a notice had been issued to Amey Khopkar, president of the MNS’s film wing under section 149 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Officials said that a violation of the notice could lead to cognisable offences being registered against the violators.
Meanwhile, a group of MNS party workers on Saturday visited the Comedy Nights Bachao studio in Powai and submitted a letter asking the studio to not employ any Pakistani artistes. Police officials said the visit was a peaceful one and no law and order problems were reported.
