Peter, Indrani siphoned off fund to 9X Media: CBI

November 26, 2015 05:19 pm | Updated 05:20 pm IST - Mumbai:

Peter and Indrani Mukherjea siphoned off funds to the tune of Rs. 900 crore to their company 9X Media through a layer of nine companies, the CBI told the court on Thursday.

Seeking Mr. Mukherjea's further custody, the investigating agency in the Sheena Bora murder case said that Ms. Indrani could have opened an account in the name of Sheena in HSBC, Singapore, through her friend Gayatri Ahuja, who worked in DBD bank.

The court extended Mr. Mukherjea's CBI custody till November 30.

"Peter floated nine companies. There is a layering of money which comes to 9X Media — run by him and Indrani. There is a huge transaction and siphoning of money and this money might have gone to Singapore and various other places," Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh, appearing for CBI.

The agency has conducted psycho analysis of Mr. Mukherjea and a report is awaited. They also want to conduct a lie detector test on him.

Mr. Mukherjea's defence lawyer Mihir Gheewala said the CBI was making vague references to financial transactions and did not submit any grounds to justify further remand.

Mr. Gheewala said none of the witness statements in the CBI chargesheet, namely of Vidhie, Rahul and Indrani's personal secretary Kajal Sharma referred to Mr. Mukherjea's role in any way.

"Peter has come clean and has told the media that he is himself a victim of his wife's (acts). He trusted his wife, who told him that Sheena was alive and that Sheena was her sister. He had no reason to doubt her," Mr. Gheewala said.
