One held in theft case

The Railway Police on Wednesday arrested Manik Naren Santara, a resident of Nalasopara, in connection with a case of theft in a suburban local train.

On July 14 last year, Lakshman Singh Dulawat, a resident of Virar, entered the crowded general compartment of a local train at Nalasopara. A co-passenger offered to hold his bag till Mr. Dulawat’s stop arrived. The bag contained ₹14,31,360 in cash.

A case was regsitered at Vasai Road Railway Police Station against an unknown person under Section 343 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for theft.

After studying CCTV footage, the cops narrowed in on Santara, who admitted to the crime during interrogation.
