Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is leaving no stone unturned to improve its ranking in the Swachh Survekshan 2018. The civic body, which ranked the eighth-cleanest city in the country, has removed about 100 community bins across its eight nodes.

The civic body had placed 600 bins in 2016 with a capacity of 1,000 litres each. “The decision was taken to keep the city neat and clean. Over a period of time, we noticed that stray dogs and cats, and rats would hunt for food since bins are open,” said Mr. Pawar.

Tushar Pawar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, solid waste management, garden department-tree authority, and Swachha Maharashtra Abhiyan, said, “Bins were not removed overnight. They have been gradually removed since the beginning of this year.”
