Zero tolerance for illegal wildlife trade

As part of World Environment Day celebrations on Monday, the Goa Forest Department vowed to work towards “zero tolerance for illegal wildlife trade”, this year’s theme. The function was organised by the Goa State Pollution Control Board, in association with the Department of Science and Environment.

Chief Secretary and Chairman of GSPCB, R.K. Srivastava, said in order to arrest the illegal trade, strict laws were needed. Law-enforcing bodies alone can play an effective role in the conservation of wildlife, he added.
