The Maharashtra government has informed the legislative council that the committee headed by Chief Secretary Swadhin Kshatriya will complete the work on Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray’s memorial at Mayor’s bungalow at Shivaji Park within one year.
The assurance from the government came in response to a calling attention motion by Shiv Sena leader Neelam Gorhe in the legislative council seeking the government response on why there was no progress on the construction of the memorial despite Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directing the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to allocate land.
In his response, Minister of State for Urban Development Ranjit Patil gave a categorical assurance that the committee chaired by Kshatriya will complete the Thackeray memorial within one year. In his reply, Mr Patil said the committee was set up by the government as per government resolution issued on December 4, 2014. After the committee recommended the Mayor’s bungalow for the memorial, the government had directed the BMC commissioner to allocate land at the Shivaji Park bungalow on a 30 year lease in a letter dated January 22, 2016.
