Supriya Sule meets Chhagan Bhujbal in jail

March 20, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - Mumbai:

Supriya Sule, daughter of Nationalist Congress Party MP and chief Sharad Pawar, on Saturday made a surprise visit to meet former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on money-laundering charges, at Arthur Road Jail.

Ms Sule refused to speak to reporters waiting outside the jail. Asked about her meeting, Ms Sule said ‘Happy Holi’ and left.

Mr Bhujbal has been in jail since Thursday when a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days. Arrested on March 14 after 11 hours of questioning, Mr Bhujbal was granted two-day ED custody. But, after a day’s questioning, he complained of uneasiness and doctors were called in at the ED office at Ballard Estate.

Pleading for a seven-day custody, the agency tried to convince the court that its investigations against Mr Bhujbal were at a crucial stage, and they had barely got a day to question him. However, the special PMLA court rejected the ED request, and remanded him in judicial custody.
