A woman has been arrested for allegedly duping around 17 women in Nalla Sopara of nearly Rs 2 lakhs. As per the FIR lodged with Tulinj police station by the victims, Sabina Yousuf Khan, 35, had asked them to ‘invest’ Rs. 40,000 and get Rs. 10 lakh in return, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi had fulfilled his promise of depositing Rs. 15 lakh in the account of each citizen after bringing back black money stashed in Swiss banks.

Khan convinced her neighbours (all women) and acquaintances to deposit Rs 50,000 to earn Rs. 5 lakh over two months, PI Prakash Birajdar with Tulinj police station said.

When the returns did not come as promised after five months, the victims realised that Khan had duped them and registered a case of cheating with the police. Mr. Birajdar said more complaints are likely to me made against Khan. The victims did not suspect her intentions initially as Brand Modi was involved and Khan was well-spoken, police said.

One of Khan’s victims, Shantiben Khandas Parmar, 71, said, “I still cannot believe that Khan cheated me. Khan would come home daily and help me with household chores. She gained my confidence in this way and then cheated me. I simply want my hard-earned money back.”

The accused has been remanded in police custody till July 26 by a Vasai court.
