Mountaineers’ meet in July

The 15{+t}{+h}edition of the Girimitra Sammelan, an annual convention of mountaineers, will be held in Mumbai from July 9 to July 10, and will honour women mountain climbers. Scheduled to be held at the Maharashtra Seva Sangh auditorium in Mulund West, the convention will have ‘Mountaineering & Women’ as its theme this year.

Ms. Chandra Prabha Aitwal, a pioneering Indian women mountaineer who was honoured with the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award for lifetime achievement in 2009, will preside over the function. Also present as special guests would be Santosh Yadav, an IAS officer and the only woman mountaineer to climb Mt. Everest twice, Everest summiteers Anshu Jamsenpa, Suman Kutiyal, Poorna Malavath, the youngest woman climber.
