A 23-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for killing his lover with a fruit-seller’s knife after he spotted her roaming with another man in Virar on Monday.

Kinjal Shah (21), who stayed with her parents in Golden Ark Apartments at Bolinj, was in a romantic relationship with Devendra Bhosle (23), who has been residing in Ekvira Apartments at Moregaon, Nalla Sopara, for the last four years. Mr. Bhosle worked as a waiter with a five star hotel in south Mumbai.

“On Monday, he went to Ms. Shah’s house with plans for an outing, but she was not at home. Later, while looking for his girlfriend, he spotted her roaming with another man,” said inspector K.D. Kolhe of Arnala Coastal police station.

Minutes later, with revenge on mind, Bhosle coaxed Ms. Shah to come for a walk and during the walk he stabbed her with a knife he had picked up from a nearby fruit-seller. He then left the body in the bushes behind her building. As Ms. Shah did not return home the entire night, her parents filed a missing complaint with the police. “On Tuesday, we received information that body of a girl was found behind a building and her parents identified their daughter’s body,” he said. Meanwhile, the police received information from Tulinj police station that a man, matching the description of Bhosle, ran on seeing a police patrol. He was arrested, and he confessed to the crime.
