Sundar Singh, 23, who blew the lid on a kidney racket at the Dr. L.H. Hiranandani Hospital, claimed on Saturday that prime accused Bajendra Bisen was using him as a middleman to locate new buyers.
In an exclusive chat with The Hindu , Mr. Singh said he did not want other patients to suffer like him. He had contacted Mahesh Tanna, a social worker, who informed the police which led to the raid and the arrest of Bisen and three others.
Meanwhile, the police arrested one Nilesh Kamble, a medical social worker and transplant coordinator at Hiranandani hospital. Another suspect, Khwaja, was picked up from Mumbra, police sources said.
Mr. Singh claimed, “I have been cheated by Bisen. Three months ago when my kidney was removed, I was promised Rs 25 lakh, but he gave only Rs 50,000.”
Mr. Singh said Bisen got him an entry pass so that he could find potential buyers and donors. Bisen also arranged for fake identity documents of donors who could pose as patients’ relatives.
The police on Thursday arrested Brijkishore Jaiswal, his son Kishan, and two agents — Bajendra Bisen and Bharat Sharma. Jaiswal was in need of a kidney and had admitted a woman, who he claimed was his wife Rekha, as the donor. Mr. Singh, who has not approached the police yet, said he had discovered that Rekha was promised Rs 3.5 lakh but was paid only Rs. 50,000. However, he claimed that Bisen had already taken Rs 25 lakh from Jaiswal. He said he would be happy to provide information to the police. Meanwhile, in a statement on Saturday night, Hiranandani hospital said it had terminated the services of Kamble. “We are fully cooperating with the investigation agencies…The hospital has constituted an internal committee of five Doctors and we are also looking at engaging external consultants to further strengthen the screening and authorisation process for transplants,” the statement said.
