A 43-year-old man on Monday died after he fell in the gap between the train and the platform at the Thane railway station this morning, railway police said.

Kodakil Vellamuddan Chandran arrived here by the Kochiveli-LTT Garib Rath Express at around 11 a.m. on platform eight. Getting down from the train, which was still in motion, he slipped into the gap between the platform and the rake, the GRP said.

He was given oxygen and administered some treatment. A portion of the platform was broken to extricate him but he could not be saved. The train, which was to terminate at LTT in Mumbai, was delayed by 50 minutes due to the accident.

Death or injuries due to falling into the gap between the train and the platform are commonly reported in Mumbai and neighbouring areas. — PTI
