Mumbai: The Shiv Sena’s Anil Kokil took over as the chairman of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Committee on Thursday.

Mr. Kokil said he would not accept any perks of the post till the BEST employees receive their salaries for February. BEST General Manager Dr. Jagdish Patil said employees would receive their salaries by March 24. Mr. Patil said he has sought loans of ₹100 crore and ₹Rs 60 crore from two banks.

Mr. Kokil, a former BEST employee, said an all-party meeting should be convened with the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to resolve BEST’s fiscal crisis.

He said he would introduce mobile ticketing apps and ensure seamless travel in the city. The BEST committee has 16 members, six corporators each from the Sena and the BJP, two from the Congress, and one each from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).

On Thursday, the Sena’s Anant Nar took charge as the chairman of the Improvements Committee, which looks into permissions for buildings, gardens and decides on property related matters. The committee has 26 members: 10 corporators each from the BJP and the Sena, three from the Congress and one each from the NCP and MNS.

With the BJP and other parties deciding not to contest against the Sena, the appointments were made unopposed. The Sena now holds all the chairperson posts in major committees in the BMC.
