Kunal Vardhan, son of a top Mumbai-based realtor, was arrested and later granted bail on Saturday in connection with a hit-and-run case.

According to the police, the victim, Mayur Kadam (24), who worked as manager of a Marathi actress, was riding his motorbike when he was allegedly hit by Kunal’s Mercedes (MH-46-AD-4646). The accident took place opposite the Oberoi Hotel on Marine Drive in South Mumbai.

Vardhan rushed Kadam to the Bombay Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival. Vardhan then fled the spot.. A bystander who picked up Mayur’s phone, called up his family and informed them about the accident.

Though the accident took place on Thursday night, the police took more than 24 hours to lodge an FIR against Vardhan. The police have recorded the statements of two eyewitnesses — a vendor and a horse-carriage driver who noted the number of Vardhan’s Mercedes.
