Claim apathy has put careers at risk

The Ambedkar Students Association (ASA) released a satirical one-minute video in the city on Thursday to protest against the Mumbai University for not declaring exam results in spite of the start of admission season and putting the future of students at risk.

The video, an adaptation of the popular Marathi song Sonu Tujha Majhyavar Bharosa Nay Kay, questioned the decision of the Vice-Chancellor to delay the declaration of results.

“Mumbai University does not seem to give priority to students’ issues. A lot of planning is done, but they always fall behind on execution,” said Rohit Kamble (26), M.Phil student and president of Ambedkar Students Association, University of Mumbai.

ASA also highlighted issues such as providing concession to children of farmers and starting an ambulance service at the Kalina campus of the university. Aditya Shravasti (24), president, Mumbai Ambedkar Students’ Association and an L.L.B. student at G.J. Advani Law College, said, “We asked MU to start an ambulance service as more than 10,000 people are on campus every day.”

However, Dr. M.A. Khan, registrar of Mumbai University, said, “The campus is located within the city. It is not in a remote or inaccessible area. An ambulance can reach the campus in no time. We do not see the point of starting a separate ambulance service on the campus.”

Dr. Khan further said, “Fee concessions are given by the government and not the university. If the government comes up with a General Resolution to relax the fees for children of farmers and that they will reimburse us, then we will comply. But we do not have funds to give concessions on our own.”
