Mumbai: The Maharashtra government on Wednesday revealed a new tourism logo in a bid to increase the count of visitors coming to the State.

The colourful ‘Visit Maharashtra’ logo, in the form of the letter ‘M’ in the Devanagari script, has been designed to celebrate the soul of the State and re-brand tourist hotspots, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said while unveiling the logo on behalf of the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) on Wednesday.

The logo is part of many other initiatives planned by the government to increase tourist footfall in the State, said Tourism Minister Jaykumar Rawal.

The MTDC said the idea was to make the logo “colourful, vibrant, vivacious and multi-faceted to signify the true spirit of the State”. The logo signifies a diverse range of experiences from virgin and picturesque beaches, hill stations, wildlife sanctuaries, natural caves and waterfalls to impressive forts, vibrant festivals, prehistoric pilgrimage memorials, museums and historic monuments, officials of the MTDC said.

Mr. Fadnavis said he was ecstatic to launch the ‘Visit Maharashtra’ logo to promote the State’s tourism prospects worldwide. “Maharashtra has incredible potential to become the most preferred destination for both domestic and international tourists. I believe the campaign will put the State on the global map,” he said.

Senior MTDC officials said the corporation will focus on agriculture, mining, airlines, cab-aggregators and cruises to promote the State as a tourism destination. “We would like to widen the horizon of the tourism scenario in Maharashtra by offering ample opportunities for visitors from across the globe,” Mr. Rawal said.

In the last 10 years, the MTDC has helped generate substantial foreign exchange and also generated employment. The corporation was established with the aim of promoting tourism in the State. Since its foundation, it has also been tasked with the maintenance of tourism destinations, and owns and maintains resorts in these regions. To aide tourists, the MTDC has opened information centres at all popular destinations.
