Model Preeti Jain has been convicted for three years and hadned a fine of ₹10,000 for conspiring to kill filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar.

In 2004, Jain had filed a rape case against Mr. Bhandarkar in 2004, which was quashed by the Supreme Court in 2012. In 2005, Ms. Jain approached Pardeshi and paid him ₹75,000 to kill Mr. Bhandarkar.

As Pardeshi was unsuccessful in carrying out the murder, Jain demanded her money back. This demand was escalated to gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli, who is currently in jail, and he alerted the local police about the same.

On September 10, 2005 Pardeshi was arrested and Jain was picked up later by the Versova police station. Soon thereafter, the police reached Das as well who had arranged for the arms to kill the film maker.
