A 16-year-old girl was left with a fractured nose after a man allegedly hit her repeatedly for asking him and his friends not to argue among themselves loudly in Nehru Nagar in the Kurla East area. Locals remained mute spectators, the police said on Saturday.

The incident, which took place on Tuesday, was captured on a CCTV camera. The video, purportedly showing one Imran Shahid Shaikh attacking the girl, who was known to him, has gone viral on social and mainstream media.

The accused was arrested on the day of the incident, but was later granted bail by a local court.

According to a police official, the girl was going to a class with a friend when she saw a group of youths seated inside a parked autorickshaw arguing loudly. She asked them not to make noise. Enraged at being rebuked, Mr. Shaikh hit her on the nose with a metal object.
