Man rapes daughter, threatens to kill self to silence her

April 02, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:06 am IST - MUMBAI:

The Malabar Hill police have arrested a 50-year-old man for allegedly raping his daughter twice in the last six months. Police said the accused threatened to kill himself if she told anyone about the incidents.

According to the police, the accused stays with his son and daughter and drives a taxi for a living. They said the accused sexually abused his 12-year-old daughter first in October 2015 and threatened her with suicide if she reveals the crime. The traumatised victim held her silence as she had already lost her mother and was afraid of losing her father as well, said officers.

“In March this year, the accused raped her again and repeated his threat. The victim finally found the courage to confide in a classmate in the last week of March. The classmate approached the class teacher who informed the principal,” an officer with Malabar Hill police station said.

On Monday, senior school officials met to discuss the matter, and decided they should report it to the police as the victim was afraid to do so herself.

“The matter was reported to us on Thursday, and a team was sent to the victim’s residence. The accused and the victim were brought to the police station and the girl’s statement was recorded, based on which the father was arrested. He has been charged with rape under IPC and with sexual assault of a minor under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act,” the officer added.

The accused was produced in court on Friday and has been remanded in police custody. The victim has been subjected to medical tests and is now in the care of a relative, officers said.
