The Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly strangling his nephew to death. The police said that he had taken the boy to a desolate spot with the intention of sexually assaulting him, and killed him after he resisted.

According to the police, the boy, Rishi Waghela (11), went missing from his residence in Irla on November 22. His parents approached the Juhu police, who registered a case of kidnapping against unknown persons.

Around 8 p.m. on Sunday, Rishi’s decomposed body was found near a creek on Yari Road in Versova. Unit IX of the Crime Branch, in a parallel probe, learned that Rishi’s uncle Ravi had been missing for two days after the boy went missing. The Crime Branch picked him up on Tuesday night, and after prolonged questioning, Ravi confessed to the murder. He was arrested on Wednesday and handed over to the Juhu police.
