Mumbai: Judge M.G. Sevlikar of the Principal District and Sessions Court, Raigad, sentenced Tauseef Jahangir Ali alias Amit for the murder of his friend Nilesh Shashikant Das to life imprisonment.

The case was registered at the Panvel City police station in 2014. The co-accused, Nilesh’s wife, Koreena Das, has been acquitted due to lack of evidence.

The body of 32-year-old Nilesh was found near the railway tracks in Panvel on February 26, 2014. Koreena and Amit were arrested on February 28. As per the prosecution, the murder was the result of an affair between the two.

According to the police, the accused had tried to make the death look like a suicide or accident, but due to the deep injuries inflicted on the neck and hands with a sharp weapon, a case of murder was registered.

Amit and Nilesh were friends and worked as construction labourers. On the night of February 25, Amit offered Nilesh alcohol. After Nilesh became drunk, Amit assaulted him with a chopper and around 4 a.m., dumped his body near the tracks.
